E6 is on a Roll!

We are off and running!  We launched our reading week with a book tasting at the “Bestseller Beach Cafe”, we “revved” up our writing with poetry, and “fired-up” grammar with the introduction of noREDink.  It has been a month of activities and lessons that focus on language arts.  We will start September with our “Week of Inspirational Math”.

Bestseller Beach Cafe

Students spent Monday morning at the cafe tasting books from all different genres.  Students were able to pick a favorite book and have started each morning with silent reading.  Reading is a great way to calm down and cool off before classwork begins.

Students spent the week learning reading strategies to enhance critical thinking and comprehension. Ask your student to explain “metacognition” and the importance of “real” reading.

Write on E6!

Creativity shined as students played with poetry.  We borrowed words from mentor poets, we rhymed like Dr. Suess, and “found” poetry in our everyday work.  Click on the link to see some examples of student’s “black out” poetry.

What if you raise

Your voice,

And dance along

While you sang.

Then everything went silent.

Hush,.

Wake up and start your day.

Stay True

Raise your spunk

Dance your heart

Find the voices

Hush.

There will sometimes be many voices.

But don’t twist and turn.

Just stay true to your heart.

I simply had to gawk,

At the young boy stacking socks.

His name was Knox.

He had chicken pox.

I gave him some rocks,

He gave me some box-locks.

What a strange child was little Knox.

Introducing noREDink

Students had the opportunity to set up accounts on noRedink, a grammar program that allows students to generate a profile with personal preferences that will be used in assignments, have your kids show you!  Students love seeing their names in print.
