November- A Welcome Change

Saying goodbye to a “colorful” October, and welcoming the cooler days of November.  Where did the time go?

We always say to the kids, “time flies when you’re having fun”, well October must have been a blast because the days just flew by.  The students and teachers of E6 were busy learning the states and capitals, completing state research projects, writing fantasy stories, and studying the difference between taiga and tundra or deciduous and coniferous biomes.  We also spent days meeting in reading groups and enjoying our first ever class audio book.  Whew… I am so proud to say we made it!!

Thank you to all the students, teachers, parents, grandparents, and friends who helped make this past month and our “Celebrate America Day” so successful.  Our “50 State Breakfast” and “1st Annual E6 Geography Bee” was a huge success.  Please visit our photo galleries to witness all of your students’ hard work.

We are all EGGSPERTS!  We have a new game in class and the students and teachers are loving it.  Wireless “eggs” or buttons are given to the students and when a question is asked the student can press the button to light up the coordinating color at the front of the classroom.  We are able to ask hundreds of questions and every child gets a chance to answer and review cultural material.  Engagement has skyrocketed!

Hooked!

A great fantasy story starts with a sentence that grabs the attention of the reader.  As we prepare for our publishing party students have been editing their writing pieces to include word choice that prepares the reader for an experience.

“It all started at the beach when Riptide disappeared.” – Saagar

“As I climb out of bed I watch a feather fall onto the hardwood floor. It quietly graces my foot.” – Vivi K.

“She sat up. She blinked.  This time, she didn’t fall asleep. Oh, how I hate Monday mornings – the weekend never seems to last long enough.” – Amber

“Serina was working in the fields of Pennsylvania when all of the sudden a hole opened up in the ground and sucked Serina down.”

Pine Cone Discoveries

Check out the photos of students investigating what can be found in a pine cone.  As part of our study of the coniferous forest, students open pinecones to understand how pinecones protect their seeds from variations in the environment.

The study of deciduous forests starts today.

We hope all of you are enjoying the cooler weather and the beautiful Nevada fall.  Thank you for your continued support of E6.🍁
